I have been
meaning to try this simple geometric pattern on a revamp for ages. This is a
pretty inexpensive stool that I picked up in IKEA. I use it mostly in the
kitchen to wash messy faces and sticky fingers at the sink but also in the guestroom as a
side table when we have guests staying over.
Seemed like
the perfect victim to try my geometric cross pattern. It was easy to do. I used
IKEA’s own wood treatment in black and masking tape. That is all you need.
However
there is a problem! The treatment bleeds in under the masking tape as you see
on the photo. Duh! I really should have thought of it as wood treatment has a
completely different texture to paint. Treatment sinks into the wood and
travels along wood grain while paint just sits on top of it.
Thankfully
with a thick permanent black marker you can sharpen the lines and it blends in
quite well in the end. Disaster averted. ;)
Method:
1)
Use
masking tape to apply your pattern. The simpler the better.
2)
Apply
the treatment and wait until it completely dries. (approx 10 hrs)
3)
Remove
the masking tape
4)
Correct
the sides with a permanent black marker
5)
For
a water and stain proof finish apply a layer of matt varnish
